Olympic fever may have faded, but there’s still plenty to watch this autumn. The sporting calendar’s packed with all manner of events, from golf and cycling to cricket and tennis. And of course, we mustn’t forget the most important of all – England’s World Cup qualifier. Whether you’re watching on TV or participating yourself, make sure you get stuck in this season.
Come on England
After the misery of England’s European failure, we’re going to need lots of support for the qualifiers. But let’s forget about the past and concentrate on the future. Hopefully Fabio Cappello will lead our boys to World Cup glory. Or not. Either way, show your support by pulling on the latest England shirt and keeping your fingers firmly crossed.
Golf chic
When it comes to golf, the Ryder Cup’s a pretty big deal. With the US on one side and Europe on the other, it’s truly a clash of the titans. If you fancy joining in the action, you’ll need to look the part. Lacoste and Lyle & Scott polos are a must in summer, so switch to the ubiquitous Pringle jumper for the autumn.

If you’re into F1 racing, it’s fairly hard to try it yourself. Unless you’re a personal friend of Lewis Hamilton, you’re pretty much out of luck. However, help is at hand with the mighty Playstation 3. Formula One Championship Edition puts you behind the wheel of some of the world’s fastest cars. So plug in your joypad and put your pedal to the metal.
Back to school
September sees the kids go back to school after their lengthy summer break. And if yours are like most, they spent their time in front of a games console. So lure them back into fitness mode with some simply sports equipment. Goalposts, a basketball ring, even a simple climbing frame - just get them back into the active swing.
Dive into sport
Sadly, summer’s totally gone. No more sunshine-splashed football in the park. And if you’re playing golf, you’re going to need a brolly. But who needs good weather when there’s loads to do inside? Leisure centres are jam-packed with activities, whether it’s squash and badminton or swimming and tennis. You don’t need your own equipment either, simply turn up and get stuck in.

This month sees Great Britain enter the qualifying rounds of the Eurobasket Tournament. If you can’t get down to watch the action live, take to the streets for a game of one-on-one. Most towns and cities have public ring, so invest in a professional ball and show off your slam dunkin’ skills.
