Embrace the autumn

Embrace the autumn

During summer, everyone looks healthy. Tanned, glowing skin's everywhere you look, while toned bodies strut along the High Street. Unfortunately, all that’s about to change. As autumn rocks up with its chilly weather, all we want to do is stay in the warm and generally mourn the sun. But get up, dust yourself down and embrace the new season with a healthy, perkier attitude.

Vamp it up

Vamp it up

As we wave goodbye to the summer sun, it’s time to embrace the darker tones of autumn. And this applies to cosmetics, too. Light, natural tones are going the same way as ice lollies and hotpants. This season, it’s all about the dark vamp-ish style. Go for the Dita Von Teese look with pale makeup and blood red lipstick.

The bob is back

The bob is back

It may seem like Groundhog Day, but yes, the bob’s back in vogue. This choppy cut’s been in and out more times than the Hokey Cokey. But with glamorous A-listers like Kirsten Dunst and Katie Holmes sporting the style, it’s a cut that’s set to knock Aggy’s pixie crop off the top spot.

Natural or not?

Natural or not?

Fake tan – saint or sinner? Well, it’s a very fine line. Get it right and you’ll look healthy and vibrant. Get it wrong and you’ll look like, well, Jordan. With our sunshine complexion finally fading, there’s no need to go crazy with the bronzer. Apply liberally and you can retain that summer glow with looking like an orange.

Autumn beach body

Over the summer, you probably hit the gym to achieve that toned beach body, right? Well, there’s no reason why you can’t keep up your exercise regime. If you're sick of the gym, invest in some home fitness equipment. A simple exercise bike or rowing machine will help keep your figure in shape.

Food perk-up

Food perk-up

As the season changes, so does our state of mind. While our bodies burst with energy during summer, we take a dip during autumn. However, help is at hand. To perk up, eat plenty of fruit and raw seeds or nuts. Dehydration’s a big cause of fatigue, so drink plenty of water, too. And finally, stock up on vitamin B, which gives your energy levels a much-needed boost.

Soothing lips

Soothing lips

An unwelcome factor of the new season is the chilly weather, which offers chapped or cracked lips. But don’t worry – help is at hand. Elemis Lip Revive repairs and revives sore, broken kissers. Or go for Johnson’s Mooncare Balm, which works like an overnight mask.

Fresh and supple skin

Fresh and supple skin

For once, we had a pretty decent summer. Parks were filled with sun-worshippers looking for that tropical tan, minus the expense of a holiday. However, excessive sun can be damaging to our skin. So it’s worth investing a few quid in a decent moisturiser. Splash out on one of Clinique’s excellent creams that’ll keep you supple and fresh.

Coconut saviour

Never mind duty free booze, after your Caribbean holiday you should’ve stocked up on coconuts. The tropical staple is reported to aid vitamin absorption and boost digestion. By simply adding coconut oil to food or smoothies, it can drastically enhance performace and and energy levels.

Seasonal sniffles

Seasonal sniffles

As September arrives, we can brace ourselves for both types of cold – weather and health-wise. The common cold’s notorious for having no cure, but vitamin C’s usually recommended – until now. Researchers have found that vitamin D lowers the chance of flu, which can also lower the risk of cancer, heart disease and diabetes.

Waterproof wonder

Waterproof wonder

When it comes to mascara, no one wants ‘panda eyes’. Whether you’re caught in autumn showers or sobbing as the summer bows out, you’re going to need some protection. The new waterproof mascara by Bourjois boasts the tagline ‘tested at foam parties’ to guarantee its foolproof formula. And not only does it stay put, it also thickens lashes for that long-lasting Bambi look.
